Passionate about food, in love with the story! Foodie Records is founded by Anja Roubos.

‘I write about food and create culinary images through photographs and video. The past decade (or two;-)), I’ve been watching programs and formats on food. And it’s time to connect the dots: I have a Master in Film and Television Studies, I love food, I create video’s, I have a (Dutch) foodblog and I’ve been analyzing a huge amount of culinary television programs and foodfilms. I’ve founded Foodie Records to share my point of view on the way we use media to talk about food. As a foodie I’ve always been interested in stories behind the food I love. I’m interested in the story behind the people who passionately make food for others. What’s their inspiration? What about the energy, the creativity, the hard work & love? And what about the way their story gets told?’

I describe and analyse food and culinary-related subjects. I have a Master in Film and Television Studies (University of Utrecht, The Netherlands) and a immense interest in food, food narrative and the way we communicate about food. I combine my knowledge about film, television and new media with my evergrowing interest in the way we use food to communicate and at the same time use media to talk about food. In 2011 I started a Dutch foodblog on pastry (Tarte taart An), and commited myself to write about food eversince. I recently started to write essays about food and the way we use media to talk about food. In my essays I focus on the way we use media to share passion and on the way culinary stories are told. I focus on the way chef’s work to tell stories through food and at the same time I tend to look at the way stories about these chef’s and restaurants are being translated in the media.

Video’s & photo’s

With my photographs and video’s I’d like to contribute to the food narrative. I love to create food-related stories through photographs and video. I focus on kitchens, brigades, chefs, patissier and craftsmen working on products which support the preparation of food. I commit myself to capture the moment and to grasp the essence of a kitchen, a plate of food, a chef or a special food-related interaction. I shoot video and photographs on location. I adapt my photo’s in Photoshop and can make them usable for printed media and web. I can also create flyers, (printed and online) banners and promotional material. I shoot the video and edit the raw filmmaterial to a short story. In this way I want to visualize and share the stories of passionate people, seen through the eyes of a foodie!

Essays and food-related stories

The food narrative is my main interest. I want to experience and contribute to the manners in which the food narrative is being told. At the same time – through my essays – I’d like to examine the food narrative and investigate the contribution of this specific narrative to society. What influence has food narrative in the way we deal with food? How has the story evolved over the years and what does that mean for the future? I explore how we can use media to talk about food, how media can convey the message of people who communicate through food and how we can use media to share knowledge about nutrition.
